Overtake

How to Play

• Unlike every other maze on this site, Overtake is not the same for everyone — every single race generates a brand new set of four loops on the spot, seeded by the exact moment you start. Hit a level button again and you get a completely different track, even seconds later.
• You're in Lane 1, the innermost ring. Three rivals occupy Lanes 2 through 4, nested around you. All four lanes are separate mazes, generated independently — nothing is shared between them except the moment the race starts.
• Each lane is shaped like a closed loop — right along the top straight, down one end, left along the bottom, back up to where you started. The finish sits right next to your start, but there's a wall directly between them: the only way there is the long way around, a full lap, clockwise. Move the violet marker (you) to break the tape.
• Every lane is scattered with power-ups, placed differently in each of the four — whoever passes over one, player or rival, triggers it. 👻 Phase, 🌀 Warp / 💫 Mega Warp, 🛡️ Shield, 🧲 Magnet, and 🍀 Comeback only ever help whoever grabs them.
• ❄️ Freeze, 🐌 Slow Field, ⏪ Rewind, and 🔀 Swap work the other way — they target every OTHER racer, never the one who picked it up, so a rival grabbing one can hinder you just as easily as you can hinder them. 🔄 Reverse only ever does anything if a rival picks it up — it inverts your own controls, so there's nobody for it to affect if you grab it yourself.
• 🛡️ Shield blocks the very next attack aimed at you, then it's gone. 🍀 Comeback gives a bigger warp the further behind last place you are. 🧲 Magnet auto-collects anything you walk near, not just what you land on exactly. 🔀 Swap trades places with whoever's currently leading — by progress around the loop, not literal position — unless they're shielded, in which case it just fizzles.
• 💣 Trap Drop plants a hidden hazard at your own current spot — since each lane belongs to only one racer, only you can ever trigger it later by backtracking onto it. 🎲 Mystery looks the same every time but resolves into a random one of everything else the instant you grab it.
• None of these ever block a cell or change the maze itself — worst case from getting hit is a delay, never a dead end, so the race always stays winnable.
• The rivals move on their own, always along the shortest possible route through their own maze unless they detour for a power-up — they never make mistakes. Their pace is randomized fresh every race within a window set by level and day. A rival that falls meaningfully behind will start actively hunting for a nearby power-up instead of walking straight to the finish.
• The moment you reach your own finish line, your own input stops — but the race itself keeps going. The camera switches to follow whichever rival is still furthest ahead, so you can watch the rest play out.
• Once only one lane is left unfinished — yours or a rival's — a 10-second countdown begins. If that last lane doesn't finish before it runs out, the whole race ends right there. If it's you who's left, that means you can DNF: you can lose even after everyone else looks slow, so don't dawdle once you're the only one left.
• Finishing your own lane still counts as a solve for your streak, regardless of placement — a DNF (running out the clock as the last lane standing) does not.
• Every racer leaves a live trail behind them in their own color, visible the whole race, not just at the end.
• The track gets longer through the week — Monday's the easiest, Sunday's the hardest — and the rivals get faster right along with it. Pick a level, Beginner through Extreme — it makes the maze itself more tangled and pushes rival pace faster too, on top of whatever the day already adds.
